What no one told you about Pakistan
Antoine Pagis: Around the world in search of an ‘ideal match’

Antoine Pagis, a 30-year-old Frenchman, is visiting Pakistan in his VW van fuelled by two desires: to explore the world and to find ‘Miss Right’.
Pagis has been on the road for two months, having decided on a world tour after waking up one morning fed-up with the drudgery of his daily life. He quit his job at a software company in his hometown of Montbrun les Bain, southeast France, and embarked on his dream trip. “I felt the need to feel alive,” he explained.
He also felt the nagging need to find his perfect match. Marriage and children are on his mind, and Pagis told The Express Tribune he seeks the one true love of his life — something to alert all single Francophile women in Pakistan.
What qualities is he looking for? “I’m a young man. Of course I want her to be beautiful, but it’s very important that she’s also smart,” he said.
Arriving in Karachi, he was pleased with what he saw. He said he was glad to discover that young and ‘modern-looking women’ exist in this part of the world. In Quetta, by contrast, he said he rarely saw women, except for elderly ones or children. (Complete news article)

Due to Pakistan’s support for the cause of Algerian struggle for self determination and independence, Ben Bella was given a Pakistani diplomatic passport to make his foreign travels possible in the face of the international manhunt for him undertaken by the French and their allies. Ben Bella also traveled on a Pakistani diplomatic passport during the years of his exile from Algeria in 1980s.

Pakistan has more to be proud of :) UCD 4-Nations Cup

Pakistan and Ireland squared off in the final of the UCD 4-Nations hockey tournament, having met just 24 hours earlier in the pool stages of the event. It was Pakistan that triumphed 2-1, a similar score line to that of Friday, but not before being put under sustained pressure by minnows Ireland.

Pakistan dominated the early stages of the game putting the Irish defense to test but failed to score due to some great work by David Harte in goal.

Ireland went under even more pressure in the 13th minute when Stuart Loughrey was forced to serve ten minutes for a diving tackle but sustained well before mounting their counter attacks. The 16th and 21st minutes saw the hosts come close to opening the account but they were met with a solid hand in Salman Akbar. The sides went into halftime 0-0. (complete news)

Today Pakistanis are celebrating the birthday of their founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah aptly called Quaid-e-Azam (the great leader). On this which would have been his 134th Birthday we will like to share a part of his which might not be very well known to many. Here is a letter of his beloved wife Rutti Jinnah from Paris to him.

S. S. Rajputana,
Marseilles 5 Oct 1928

Darling – thank you for all you have done. If ever in my bearing your once tuned senses found any irritability or unkindness – be assured that in my heart there was place only for a great tenderness and a greater pain – a pain my love without hurt. When one has been as near to the reality of Life (which after all is Death) as I have been dearest, one only remembers the beautiful and tender moments and all the rest becomes a half veiled mist of unrealities. Try and remember me beloved as the flower you plucked and not the flower you tread upon.

I have suffered much sweetheart because I have loved much. The measure of my agony has been in accord to the measure of my love.

Darling I love you – I love you – and had I loved you just a little less I might have remained with you – only after one has created a very beautiful blossom one does not drag it through the mire. The higher you set your ideal the lower it falls.

I have loved you my darling as it is given to few men to be loved. I only beseech you that the tragedy which commenced in love should also end with it.

Darling Goodnight and Goodbye

Ruttie

I had written to you at Paris with the intention of posting the letter here – but I felt that I would rather write to you afresh from the fullness of my heart. R.

Pakistan’s expert drag-flicker Sohail Abbas became the first man in hockey history to reach the 300-goal mark. He surpassed Dutch legend Paul Litjens’ 267-goal tally in 2004 and has now left other internationals with a lot of catching up to do. Abbas was also the top goal-scorer in the 2010 hockey World Cup qualifiers held in Lille, France which Pakistan won by beating Japan.
